About the Book
IN SEARCH OF THE MEANING OF DEATH, SHE’LL FIND THE MEANING OF LIFE.
Seventeen-year-old Scarlett Blake is haunted by death. Her sister has made the ultimate dramatic exit run away from school, join a surfing fraternity, drown in a tragic ‘accident’.
Following in her sister’s footsteps, Scarlett comes to an isolated English cove to uncover the truth. And, as it turns out, to fall in love with the place and its people, especially a certain blue-eyed surfer with a serious case of the heroics.
But as Scarlett’s quest for the truth unravels, so too does her grip on reality as she’s always known it. Because there’s something strange going on in this little cove. A dead magpie circles the skies. A dead deer watches from the undergrowth. Hands glow with light. Power.
What transpires is a summer of discovery of what it means to conquer fear, to fall in love, to choose life, to choose death.
To believe the impossible.
The Ceruleans soulful, coming-of-age romance with a paranormal edge. Five books, one question – if the might of the heavens were in your hands, would you be sinner or saint?

Actual Rating 3.5I received a copy in exchange for honest review, this does not affect my review in any shape or form.
Death Wish had a little bit of everything mixed into it, a little magic, a little romance, a little about grieving and a little about finding oneself. Death Wish took me a while to read not because it was bad book not at all, it mostly had to do with me.
Our Story
Sienna and Scarlett are sisters and were born 10 months apart. Sienna runs away from boarding school and moves to an isolated cove and joins a surfing fraternity. She keeps in contact with Scarlett through emails only that they’re a bit cryptic and never really go into detail about what she’s up, what she’s thinking. One day, Scarlett is called into the Principal’s office where she finds out that Sienna has committed suicide.
It’s not like Sienna to want to take her life, she’s full of life. Scarlett just cannot understand what was going through her head so she sets off on mission. She decides to spend her summer at the isolated cove where she can uncover the truth about her sister’s demise.
When I first started reading Death Wish, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew it had a little bit of romance, magic and death. I wasn’t entirely sure how the author was going to execute that into a wonderful story. I have to say she did a pretty good job. I don’t read much paranormal romance but after Death Wish I think I should. There was something in the story that drew me in and when I stopped reading I felt like a lost a bit of myself.
Our Characters
“You could say a lot of things about Scarlett Blake – she’s a loner, she’s a wallflower, she’s a menace in the kitchen but no way was ‘she’s a quitter’ on the list of character flaws.”
Scarlett sometimes gave me a headache and sometimes I wanted to hug her. Sometimes she could be mean other times she was such a mess that all I wanted to do was hug her. In the beginning you get the sense that she’s always lived in Sienna’s shadow and now that it’s just her she’s learning how to adjust and find herself. I loved the character development of Scarlett. She truly blossomed in my eyes.
Luke
He’s a wonderful guy. He’s taking care of his little sister, working a couple jobs to keep the house they live in putting off his dreams of becoming a chef. He’s also protective and always watching out for Scarlett. He’s also very sweet. I really liked him despite sometimes I wanted to yell at him and Scarlett to just shut up and kiss already. I hope to see more of him.
Jude
I didn’t quite understand Jude’s presence in the story until the end. He was a mystery throughout the whole story including to his friends. He just pops in and out of the story. It was kind of irritating because I wanted to know what his deal was but I’m assuming we find out in the next book of the series.
Cara
I really loved Cara. I think everyone needs a friend like her. She was able to help Scarlett break out of her shell a little at a time. I hope we get to see more of her in the series.
The Paranormal Aspect
I felt like the paranormal aspect of the story was only given to us in spurts. We’d randomly see things such as the blue light coming from hands but nothing much. It didn’t make its presence known throughout the story. It was just giving us hints. I’m hoping everything is explained in the second book or at least a better understanding of what was going on with Scarlett and especially Jude.
The end of the story I was left with a whole bunch of questions. Again, I’m hoping the rest of my questions will be answered in the next book.
Overall
Overall, I really did enjoy this story a lot more then I initially thought I would. I thought the story was well written and original. I loved how Megan was able to incorporate a little romance, mystery, paranormal and the topic of grieving into one story. I really didn’t think she would pull it off. But she did. I was impressed. The story is a bit slow but it does draw you in because you are wondering what’s going to happen.
The only problem I had with the story was the language. Some of the words and the manner in which they were used I often found trouble with. But other then that, I really didn’t have any major issues with it.
I will be checking out the rest of the series because I seriously need answers to my questions. Do I recommend? If you are looking for a lot of paranormal influences in the story then no, you won’t like this. But if you are okay with a little bit of paranormal influence then yes, go on and pick this up!

Death Wish The Ceruleans Book 1 edition by Charlotte Wilson Children eBooks Reviews
This is one of those books that leaves me with so much to say and not an idea of how to say it. I started it in the evening one night and found I was enjoying the story but not sure where it or I would go. I got about 10% in and then went to bed. After waking the next morning I packed and prepared for our trip but found myself picking it up. Now of late, and I don’t know why, I find myself rating books as I read, wondering what my final rating will be. As I started this one I thought to myself, a strong 4 for sure. Scarlett intrigued me. She was a character I found strong, stubborn, but human. I liked her. I liked her determination to uncover her sisters thought process because we find out in the beginning that her sister ended her life in the ocean and she wants to know why. She meets Luke right away and I loved the tension and natural growth between them as it takes days then weeks to develop.
The whole time there is this hint of paranormal but for the most part you aren’t presented with that but something much more normal and it built the suspense for where this book will go. The mystery aspect drove it as Scarlett tries to find out who in the town knew her sister and maybe her mindset that fateful night. By the middle of my read I thought to myself, oh definitely a solid 4.5. Things were still evolving slowly and allowing me to anticipate and guess on my own about the story, her sister and the paranormal aspect.
A unique aspect for me in this story is the surfing. I loved that this is the first book I have read in a long time (if ever because my recollection of any others is vastly blank) which has a strong surfing aspect without it being all about it and then as the story progressed that aspect dropped away but it a rather natural way. It brought a part of that culture in and helped drive the story yet didn’t didn’t over shadow it all. It also brought to life the community of Twycombe, Devon, making me fall in love with it and wanting to visit.
The supporting characters felt perfect for the story, from her new friend Cara, to Bert and his fluff ball Chester. Luke and Jude stand out heavily for me from the beginning, but they don’t begin to shine until the later half of the story as Scarlett learns more about herself and desires to learn another aspect of her 10 month older sister.
Then the last 10% of the story happened and this is were I fell in love. This is where the story became more and gave me such emotions. I found before this point I wasn’t as connected to the characters as I wanted to be but then this all changed rather quickly. Much is revealed and happens around this time but the major thing for me was this was where I became emotionally invested. When much is revealed I felt myself internally gasping and my heart racing. I felt a knife twist in my chest for Scarlett and the impossible choice, if you can call it one, that lay ahead of her.
I was caught in a moment of wonderment at what the author had done to me because I couldn’t fall asleep last night without thinking about this story. So many questions at the end it left me with and such a desire to read on. I quickly searched and gladly found book #2 is out already and that enabled me to go to bed slightly content because the questions that fill my mind. I am listing them below but they are spoilerish so they will be hidden. If you read the book I would love your thoughts on my questions too.
Questions I had
Questions can be found on my original review on my blog, questions are hidden on the blog because they contain spoilers.
Things I liked about the book
-Well written and developed in both story and character.
-There is a depth to the characters that was nice to see, but I can tell this is just the tip of the iceberg and more will be explored in later books.
-A slow teasing out of the romance, believable and touching.
-Mystery that I wanted to know the answers to.
-I didn’t have it 100% figured out.
-The end caught my breath and stole it.
-Subtle paranormal that I am sure will explode in later books.
-It left me with the desire to read more and know more.
-Integration of music I know and enjoy that I could hear playing when mentioned in the book.
-The setting, Twycombe, Devon, It was alive in my mind.
-Besides Scarlett and her strength, Cara. Cara was a character I could admire for what she lived through and the positive person she became. I loved her character.
I am so glad this book was brought to my attention and I can't help my excitement for the series.
